Botox Causes More Wrinkles

Sharon Bell recently asked:

Botox injections may give you more wrinkles next to the ones they remove. This was revealed by doctors who said that the popular wrinkle fighter that is used by celebrities and thousands of men and women worldwide may do more harm than good in the long run.

Dr David Becker, assistant professor of dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, said that while Botox is safe when used properly, it eventually creates new wrinkles. This happens because the paralyzed ****** muscles force other muscles to move in an effort to recreate the ****** expressions that Botox has blocked.

“What can happen is that other nearby muscles compensate - this can have the effect of actually creating new wrinkles,” Becker said.

One of the areas where Botox is commonly used is the scowl line between the eyebrows. When injected, Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles there and its freezing effects prevent people from frowning. Since there is no muscle contraction, no wrinkles are formed. But the procedure comes with a price.

“In this case, following treatment, muscles in the upper nose, middle eyebrow and eyelid may try to recreate the expression of a scowl. Repetitions of this action cause new wrinkles,” warned Becker.

“I have seen this happen, particularly when people have Botox between the eyebrows. Because they know they can’t frown in that area, they tend to over-compensate in other areas, and ***** up their nose and crinkle their eyes in the effort to frown,” added Dr Patrick Bowler, chair of the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors.

Although the new wrinkles are usually less prominent, Becker said more injections are needed to treat them, creating a vicious cycle. To avoid further problems, the patient can stop treatment or use Botox elsewhere. In any case, Becker said doctors and patients should be aware of this risk.

Botox is the trade name of botulinum toxin type A, a deadly neurotoxin that comes from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It works by blocking the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine that is needed for muscular contractions. When muscles can’t tighten or contract, the skin flattens and appears smoother and less wrinkled. Botox takes effect in 3 – 4 days and lasts for 3 – 4 months. Repeated injections cause the muscles to thin, producing longer lasting results.

In Britain alone, over 4,000 women have Botox injections every month and Botox parties are a common sight. The affordability of this “lunch time facelift” has made Botox one of the most popular anti-aging treatments.

If you don’t want to take chances with Botox because of its possible side effects, you can try the Rejuvinol AM/PM Botox Alternative Age-Defying System. This Hollywood beauty secret consists of the Rejuvinol morning moisturizer that protects your skin from aging, the sun, and the elements; and the Rejuvox night cream that relaxes tense muscles and smoothens skin. The Beauty of Botox - Effect on Wrinkles (part 2)

Kenji Matsuhara recently asked:

Which wrinkles and lines bother you the most? Are these lines and wrinkles the type that are best eliminated using Botox?

If you choose to eliminate only the wrinkles that can be treated with Botox, will any of the remaining ones still leave you unsatisfied with your appearance? For example, if you want both your frown lines and marionette lines removed, you will likely need a different cosmetic procedure to have the marionette lines eliminated.

It should point out that Botox injections work best on crow’s-feet (wrinkles radiating from the outside corners of the eyes), worry lines (horizontal forehead lines), and frown lines (vertical lines, also called glabellar lines, that appear between the eyebrows). These are wrinkles that are typically caused by chronic contractions of the muscles under or adjacent to these areas of the face. Laughing, smiling, frowning, and squinting are some of the common facial expressions that can cause these lines. If you have lines and wrinkles on other parts of your face that concern you, you may need other types of cosmetic procedures to eliminate them. With that in mind, consider these questions:

Which wrinkles and lines bother you the most? Are these lines and wrinkles the type that are best eliminated using Botox?

The followings are the types of lines and wrinkles:

From the top of your face down, bothersome facial wrinkles have the following names and locations. Notice that Botox is not the best choice for all types of wrinkles and lines.

Forehead lines: horizontal lines, often called worry lines. These lines form mainly because the underlying frontalis muscle, which stretches across the forehead, moves when you make facial expressions. When you lift your browsometimes referred to as the “aha” or surprised lookthe muscle contracts, which causes the skin that is covering the muscle to pull, wrinkle, and then return to its original position when you relax the muscle. Now consider the countless number of times you’ve used these muscles. As you age, your skin begins to lose its elasticity, it suffers from sun damage, and the constant contracting and relaxing of the muscle results in forehead lines. These can be eliminated using Botox or filler injections such as collagen or fat.

Frown lines: vertical lines, also known as glabellar lines, that appear between the eyebrows. These linescan make you appear serious, angry, or stressed even when you’re not. It is for the removal of these lines that the Food and Drug Administration gave approval for Botox in April 2002. These lines are best removed with Botox. If you’ve frowned a lot over the years and the lines are very deeply etched, you may also need wrinkle fillers (e.g., collagen, fat) to eliminate these lines. Your doctor will discuss your options with you.

Crow’s-feet: lines that radiate from the outside corners of the eyes. They’re also known as periorbital lines. If you have these lines, they’re most likely the result of smiling and squinting. If you look in the mirror ands mile or squint, notice how your muscles contract and cause your eyelids to nearly cover your eyes and how the muscles contract at the corners of your eyes where the lines appear. Crow’s-feet are best eliminated with Botox, plus adjunctive treatment such as collagen, chemical peels, or laser resurfacing.

Laugh lines: also known as smile lines or nasolabial lines, they are the two vertical lines that run from the outside corners of the nose down to the top of the outside of the upper lip. Even though they are called laugh lines, gravity and aging are also factors in their development. They can best be eliminated using wrinkle fillers (e.g., collagen, fat, AlloDerm, Cymetra, Gore-Tex, or SoftForm).

Lipstick or smoker’s lines: the tiny radiating lines that appear above the upper lip and below the lower one. It seems as though everyone has a different name for these annoying wrinkles, which are best removed using laser resurfacing, chemical peel, microdermabrasion, or wrinkle fillers tissue augmentation (e.g., collagen injections, AlloDerm, fat)in addition to Botox.

Marionette lines: the often deep lines that run down from the outside corners of the mouth toward the chin. These lines develop from a combination of factors, including gravity (the cheeks tend to sag from the force of gravity) and thinning of the supporting tissue that comes with age. These wrinkles are best eliminated using wrinkle fillers or laser resurfacing. Another option is a face-lift, a complex surgical procedure.

If you’ll still be bothered by the remaining lines and wrinkles, are you willing to have other cosmetic procedures done to correct them? Naturally, you will need to discuss all your options and prices with your doctor, but you should be aware that other procedures may be needed for you to get the look you desire. You also should know that while Botox injections don’t involve any recovery time, some other cosmetic procedures do.

Dangers of Backstreet Botox

Sharon Bell recently asked:

Bonnie Kaplan, 53, had a few wrinkles and she believed Botox was the answer. Celebrities were endorsing it; many people were using it, and her friends were into it. What could possibly go wrong, she thought.

Without any hesitation, she visited a private clinic in Florida for some shots. Her dream was to be wrinkle-free. Little did she know her short visit would turn into a nightmare.

“The consequences were horrific. Thirty-six hours after the injections, Bonnie started to have problems breathing and was so weak she couldn’t walk,” reported Claire Coleman in the Daily Mail.

“She was rushed to the hospital and, as botulism set in, her nerves were damaged. Within hours, her whole body was paralyzed,” she continued.

Later, Kaplan would learn that the doctor she visited wasn’t a dermatologist but an osteopath. To make matters worse, he had injected her with a different form of the botulinum toxin – one that was intended for lab research rather than for use in humans.

“Doctors think she may have received up to 2,500 times the amount of toxin believed to be lethal if injected into the bloodstream,” Coleman wrote.

“After spending months in hospital, breathing with the help of a ventilator and unable to speak, Bonnie was eventually able to move around in a wheelchair, but doctors warned that the possibility of a full recovery was slim and could take years,” she added.

Kaplan wasn’t the only person to take the deadly injections. Her husband Eric, 52, also received the shots. So did the doctor himself Bach McComb, 47, and his girlfriend Alma Hall, 34. All three were hospitalized.

Authorities are worried that what happened to Kaplan and the three others could also be happening to other people this very minute. As the popularity of Botox grows and treatments become more accessible, who is to stop any Tom, Dick or Harry from giving you a shot?

“It is not adequate to blindly stick a needle in someone’s face with scant knowledge of the potential risks that can include facial necrosis or disfigurement,” according to John Curran, chair of the British Association of Cosmetics Doctors (BACD).

But doctors said that is exactly what’s happening today due to lax regulations that can easily be bypassed by enterprising individuals out to make a fast buck at the expense of others. Coleman pointed out that while Botox is a prescription drug that can only be obtained by a doctor, anyone can inject it under the guidance of a doctor.

“If I decided to set up a salon offering Botox and filler shots to the public at £150 a time, all I need to do is find a doctor prepared to give or sell me Botox and show me how to inject it. Then, despite the fact I have absolutely no medical training, I would be acting within the law. But even if I couldn’t find an accommodating doctor, the widespread availability of Botox and other injectable products on the internet means that I could get my hands on pretty much anything I needed,” Coleman explained.

Until more stringent laws are passed and the industry learns to regulate itself, your best bet is to get Botox injections from a qualified doctor. Don’t be ashamed to check your doctor’s credentials since your face is on the line and things could get ugly if you’re not careful.

Another alternative is to use a product that works like Botox minus the side effects. One popular brand is the Rejuvinol AM/PM Botox Alternative Age-Defying System. This anti-aging system has two powerful components: the Rejuvinol morning moisturizer that creates firmer, healthier, and younger-looking skin; and the Rejuvox night cream that reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Botox Treatments for Lines and Wrinkles

Sunday, November 15th, 2009
Seo Bedford recently asked:

The first medical researches with Botulinum toxin date back to the 1960s but it was only in 1980 that is was first tested on humans for two eye muscle disorders–uncontrollable blinking (blepharospasm) and misaligned eyes (strabismus).

Studies concluded that the Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox Cosmetic) could be used as a cosmetic treatment to reduce forehead lines and wrinkles.

Over the past 14 years, millions of patients worldwide have used Botox and the results have made this treatment the most popular and effective lines and wrinkles treatment available to date.

Botox treatments are very successful in reducing forehead lines, creases between the eyebrows, bunny lines of the nose, sagging corner of the mouth (marionette lines), chin contouring, neck lines, eye bags, face reshaping by reducing size of jaw angle muscle, and crow’s feet. Botox injections work by relaxing specific muscles, softening your expression lines leaving your skin smooth and your facial expression unaffected. Headache and migraine symptoms may also be reduced and a further advantage is that the eye area will get a natural lift.

When Botox first started to be used as a cosmetic treatment, the majority of patients were women but those days are over and men are catching up women in the Botox stakes thanks to an 800% increase in the male grooming industry.

The so called “boytox” first started in the States and now has spread all over specially in the UK, the metro-sexual lot decided that they can’t wait for the lotions and creams to take effect on their lines and wrinkles, so they are opting for Botox - a fast and instant solution.

Men or women considering line and wrinkle treatment using Botox should be sure:

* A qualified doctor performs the procedure.

* The doctor is trained and qualified in cosmetic skin surgery of the face.

* They ask questions and are informed about the benefits and risks involved in the procedure.

* They avoid alcohol and remain upright for several hours following the procedure.

* Choose a medical setting using sterile techniques. Necessary equipment should be available to respond to any potential problems.

* A pre-consultation computerised skin analysis and report is performed.

* A consultation and Face mapping with an Aesthetic doctor is available.

* Topical anaesthetic application.

* A make up- make over is offered

* Follow up consultations are available

If the cosmetic surgery clinic offer all these points, patients can rest assured that they are receiving a professional Botox treatment.
