Botox: Your Youth- Renewing Agent!

Wain Roy recently asked:

Youth has deluded man since time immemorial. Generations have gone by but the search for the elusive fountain of youth has never died out. Nevertheless, the 21st century has given reason to mankind to smile on his crinkled fortune. Thanks to the miracle of science, man has finally been able to challenge the cycle of nature… at least for the time being!

It’s no news that cosmetic treatment is the answer to all those effects of ageing- wrinkles, sagging skin, and loss of glowing skin. These ageing disasters can now be effectively answered by botox, a protein toxin derived from a bacterium. Though not a permanent solution, botox can help fight age for a longer period of time. For those who are apprehensive about undergoing cosmetic surgery, doses of botulinum toxin are the best possible solution. Botulinum toxin or botox is renowned not only for its wrinkle reducing effect but also for curing certainly bodily disorders as hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). None the less, figures suggest that this toxin has reached the zenith of popularity on account of its age-reducing quality.

The signs of age first make its appearance as fine lines under the eyes and on the forehead. Besides, deep laughing lines contribute to lend your appearance even older. Such initial onset of ageing can be effectively combated with botox injections. Besides, botox doses at regular intervals retard the re-occurrence of wrinkles to a great extent. This is great news for those who feel frustrated after discovering the first signs of ageing. A lot many of them are deterred by the enormous risks involved in undergoing cosmetic surgery, skin peels, chemical peels, or face lift. Botox has given them the option to renew their youth using minimal painless methods.

This accounts for the reason why more and more people are adopting botox instead of undergoing cosmetic surgery. Moreover, results of botox treatment are visible within a very short span of time. In fact, you can choose weekends to visit the beauty clinic and begin your new week with a fresh, youthful, glowing face.

Botox clinics are now cropping up across various cities. But the best treatment is available in London. London botox treatment is trustworthy and of world-class quality. Botox London clinics promise their customers an enigmatic personality and youthful appearance, defying all blemishes of ageing.

Botox For Migraine Headaches

Saturday, May 15th, 2010
Mary Betz recently asked:

Botox for migraine headache is one of the newer advances to come along within the last five years. Many people are familiar with Botox and usually the first question providers get is..”can you get rid of my wrinkles too??” Well..yes and no. Wrinkles in forehead, yes, around the eyes, you have to see the plastic surgeon for that one!

Botox for migraine headache is a form of botulism toxin that is extremely diluted. The injections are given in small amounts, about one tenth of a milliliter, and placed just under the skin, near the nerves that cause pain.

It also causes paralysis of the muscles in the area and is sometimes used for neck spasms known as dystonias, torticollis or “wry neck”. Sometimes this is also a part of the problem with migraine, as chronic spasms in the neck will cause headaches.

So where are the injections? The injections are placed across the forehead, and just between the eyebrows. They are always placed on both sides of the head, no matter on which side your headaches are frequent. After all, you would look pretty funny with lines on one side of your forehead and not the other, right? Injections are not placed past the midline of the eyebrow as that would paralyze the eyebrow (for a few months) and you would not be able to raise them. (There goes that look of surprise!) Additional injections are placed in the temporal muscles on both sides of the temple. If neck pain is a problem, then injections may be placed just under the skin in the neck.

Side effects of Botox injections include irritation at the injection site which may last a few days, and a minute amount of blood at the injection site. If given in the neck, weakness of neck muscles may be noticed but it is usually not severe. The success rate with Botox for migraine has been reported to be as high as 75%, but clinically many see about a 50% success rate.

Injections are given every 2-4 months depending on the patient and how soon the first set begins to wear off. Many insurance companies are beginning to pay for Botox for migraine and even for chronic daily headache, so check with yours to see if you qualify. If you don’t, the cost per session is about one thousand dollars and perhaps more depending on where you live.

So how do you know if you are a candidate for Botox for your headaches? Well you have to have severe headaches that have not responded well to other medications. Also, chronic daily headache or two or three disabling migraines per month would also be a good reason to consider Botox.

Botox does not cure headaches! Like many other medications for headache, Botox offers another medium for headache management. If successful, Botox allows may allow you to reduce, and perhaps eliminate, your other headache medications. Once you are stable, say one or two headaches per month, the Botox can be discontinued.

Talk to your provider, ask for a referral to a headache center to find out more about Botox for migraine.

Insights Into Botox and Its Cosmetic Applications

Saturday, May 15th, 2010
Dr Barry Eppley recently asked:

le in America have now heard of Botox and if they haven’t, they surely will in the immediate future with its TV advertising campaign. The commonality of Botox has not only generated lots of interest but with that level of curiousity comes misconceptions and wife’s tales. Let me cover some basic concepts of this miracle drug….some of which you may know and others of which you may find surprising.

Allergan, the manufacturer of BOTOX” or botulinum toxin, was an original dermatology/opthalmology product company. It began developmemt of Botox as an experimental drug over three decades ago in the 1970s. It’s opthalmological researchers tried it on monkeys with strabismus (eye muscle disorder known as cross-eyed or wall-eyed) with surprising curative results. Since then, they have sought and expanded its uses to include cosmetic facial applications which was granted in 2002. It is this cosmetic application that has exploded Botox unto the American and worldwide scene.

The manufacturing of Botox is an interesting story. In the beginning, it was made under the strict supervision of the U.S. Military as it was a poisonous drug. Since then it is manufactured in a secret location in the U.S. and then shipped for bottling in Ireland. Whether this story is actually true, I do not know but it certainly adds to the drug’s mystique. It certainly is the most expensive drug in the world if you break down its price structure . At 5 nanograms of volume placed in each bottle which sells for nearly $500 per bottle to providers, that makes its value over 1 trillion dollars per pound!

Botulinum Toxin or BOTOX”, is produced from anaerobic (lacking oxygen) bacterial cultures creating a toxin. The toxin is composed of seven strands named A, B, C, D, E, F, G. Each strand can block the release of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, from the nerve synapse resulting in temporary muscle paralysis. (no power to the muscle so to speak) The different serotypes have different durations of action before it wears off. Serotype A lasts around three to four months while Serotype F lasts just a few weeks. This is why you see on the Botox bottle and in its advertisements, botulinum toxin A, as this one serotype lasts the longest.

The actual Botox toxin is put into small vials of 100 units as a desiccated (dry) powder. But what does the 100 units mean? It means how many units are required to kill 100 mice. Each vial then contains one hundred mice units or 100 units for short. Initially, Allergan used 25 nanograms of the toxin to kill 100 mice. But it has been learned with improved technology and manufacturing that less is needed to do the same job and the amount per bottle is now reduced to 5 nanograms. This has great relevance since Botox is a drug that requires repeated injections over time to maintain its effects. Using repeated lower doses will reduce the likelihood that patients may develop resistance or immunity. And despite what is often touted, some few select people do have a natural immunity to Botox and others do develop some resistance to its effects over time.

As a cosmetic treatment, Botox is what I call a ‘northern’ treatment’. It is superb at controlling undesired expressions around the eyes and forehead. This northern area of the face probably accounts for the vast majority of its cosmetic use as it creates results that sometimes actual surgery can not rival. It can also be used on the southern part of the face around the mouth. But its effectiveness in this area is diminished as surgical treatments are usually more effective and Botox plays more of an ancillary role to complement other types of treatments.

Does Botox Make a Great Article Subject?

Brian B recently asked:

uch Information

Upon further investigation it could be said that as far as there being enough information about Botox, there is not. The subject covering Botox is both extensive and interesting and of great enjoyment to many people. This is easily realized with a quick search of Google or Yahoo on the exact topic of Botox or any of its’ other keywords surrounding the subject of Botox.

Whatever subject you are interested in, even if it is about Botox or any other off shoot topics relating to Botox, you will be sure to find an enthusiastic readership if you are just prepared to get writing and share your knowledge on your preferred topic even if it has nothing at all to do with Botox. Finally, in order to answer my initial question. “Does Botox make a great article subject?” Then the answer would be an affirmatory ‘YES.’ Of course it does as does any other subject on any other topic imaginable.

The fact is there is almost endless ways someone might discuss Botox withought sounding boring or loosing the readers interest. Seriously the government continually tell us all how to live and seem to make it sound like a great idea when they do, anyway thousands and sometimes millions believe them and follow what they say, right or wrong. Telling your readers about Botox.

Travel or even Antiaging if it is at all original and well presented and at the very least, with care and genuine interest of your own will continually make the subjects abot Antiaging, Travel and even Botox not only popular but much followed by a world that is in love with information about many things even on Botox

How Botox® Works

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010
Lynn Fugaro recently asked:

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) collects statistics each year on which cosmetic surgeries are most often done, and which minimally-invasive procedures are most often done for cosmetic reasons. In 2006, Botox® was Number One on the minimally-invasive popularity list, with 4.1 million people having that treatment.

As cosmetic surgery becomes more accepted and more popular in the general population, more people begin dipping their toe into the water by having a minimally-invasive procedure rather than a permanent one, a surgery. Examples of this are the very popular injectable fillers, such as Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, and Artefill. These plump out the ****** skin, giving you a more youthful appearance. Their results are temporary, lasting several months to several years, depending on which one you choose to have.

Botox is an injection, but not a filler. It works in a different way altogether. Rather than placing some kind of substance beneath the skin to give that youthful look, it works on the nerve impulses traveling to the particular muscles at the injection site.

Frown lines

Most of us develop frown lines towards middle age, or earlier. They come from repeated use of the muscles that wrinkle the forehead skin between the eyes (the procerus and corrugator muscles). We may not always be frowning because we feel angry or worried. We may be just squinting in the sun, or sneezing, or coughing. There is often an automatic contraction of the frown muscles in these ways which doesn’t say anything about our personality or outlook on life.

But the fact is that frown lines do give people an impression that you’re annoyed, impatient, depressed, or some other kind of negative feeling. They give the face an older look. When the frown muscles contract, they also lower the eyebrows, which adds to the aging look. So if a person wants to appear younger and more relaxed, they may turn to a Botox treatment to smooth out the frown lines. It takes ten minutes to remove years of frowning.

Where Botox® is derived from

Botox® Cosmetic is the trade name used by Allergan, Inc., the manufacturer. It is a substance derived from the botulinum toxin produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. That is one very toxic protein as it occurs in nature, but it is not Botox. This toxic protein was originally discovered in poorly prepared meat, and was called sausage poison, back in the nineteenth century. If you ingested it, it would act systemically to paralyze all the body’s muscles, which would be fatal.

Botox® Cosmetic does not do this! The only similarity between a Botox injection and the botulinum toxin is that they both act by blocking nerve impulses traveling to the muscles. A Botox injection is very tiny, given through a very tiny needle, into a very specific muscle. It affects only a small area on the face and only temporarily.

How Botox Acts

It acts on the nerve impulses that travel to the particular muscle where it is injected. To treat frown lines, it is injected into the procerus and corrugator muscles, and blocks the nerve messages that would tell those muscles to contract. They don’t receive those messages, and so they don’t contract. The skin over those muscles therefore does not get wrinkled, and it acquires a smoother look.

The effect of a Botox injection lasts for four to six months. The body gradually absorbs the substance and the treatment needs to be repeated. However, if it is repeated in a series of treatments, those muscles will gradually learn not to contract as much. So this can give a more long-term effect and allow the skin to smooth out more permanently. It will not smooth out completely, but it will certainly look smoother and younger.

You can have a Botox injection on your lunch hour and go straight back to work, as there is no downtime. The results are immediately visible. If you have not yet tried a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure, Botox is a good place to start. Why not now?
